Here in Seattle things are warming up. Everything is green, glowing with the warmth and vibrancy of spring. A few days have been warm enough to trick me into believing it’s summer already. And with the sunshine comes that old familiar itch: to camp, to hike, to fish. To be outdoors with the people I love, away from the tired concrete of the city. To experience grass beneath my feet, dirt under my fingernails, and campfire smoke lingering in the fabric of my clothes. I’m ready for summer.
At the moment I’m trapped behind a desk. And while I can’t be outdoors right now, I certainly can’t be stopped from thinking about it. I also intend to make YOU think about it.
I recently discovered a little blog post over on Cohabitaire with a number of sweet Backpacker Magazine covers from the 70s. Apparently you can view all the back issues in full over on Google Books. As a lover of design, hiking, and cool old things, these are right up my alley. I love the strong, simple typography, the faded colors, and the epic photography. As we gear up for summer and all it’s wonders, I thought you all might enjoy a little shot of outdoor goodness to hold you over until your next adventure. Enjoy.
